EDIT: It’s very unfortunate that Southwest chose to respond to this review with complete falsehoods. The employee told my daughter and her passenger that they were “on their way to a quote” and there was not one but two Southwest trucks present at the scene. The fleeing suspect was absolutely thrown up against my daughter’s car which could easily be proven with any footage from surrounding businesses. It’s clear that you’re not going to step up and do the right thing but PLEASE don’t tell blatant lies in your response to my review to attempt to make yourselves appear to be the victim. Extremely disappointed with how Southwest Fence & Deck handled this situation. My daughter was driving through the one-way lane behind Crabby Joe’s when two Southwest Fence & Deck employees chased a man, who had allegedly stolen an employee’s backpack containing a laptop, the wrong way into the alley causing him to slam directly into my daughter’s vehicle. The employees then pinned him up against my daughter’s car. Despite the police attending, the suspect managed to escape and has never been identified. My daughter was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now left paying a $500 insurance deductible because of someone else’s actions. She recently graduated university and bought this car 3 weeks ago. I met with the general manager hoping the company would do the right thing and cover the deductible as a gesture of goodwill, considering the employees were acting during work hours. Instead, I was told to “go after the guy on the bike,” even though she knows he was never caught. I was also told, “Of course they’re going to chase someone who took their stuff…you would do the same thing”. When I suggested that it was a police matter she said “The Sarnia police aren’t going to show up for days”. She actually said to me “what were you expecting when you walked in here?” I said I was hoping that Southwest would pay the deductible, or at the VERY least, offer to pay half. What was even more disappointing was the complete lack of empathy. Not once was there any concern shown for my daughter, who was an innocent motorist caught in the middle of this incident that was also pretty terrifying for her. The general manager took my name, phone number, and email address and promised she would speak with the employees and get back to me. Four days later, I still haven’t received so much as a courtesy call. I’m not suggesting the employees shouldn’t care about stolen property, but pursuing someone the wrong way into a one-way lane created a situation where an innocent driver suffered the consequences. At the very least, I expected some compassion and a willingness to help make things right.

* We stand by our original response Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We’re sorry this incident occurred and understand why it was frustrating. There are, however, several statements in your review that do not accurately reflect what occurred. The individuals involved were not on company time and were not acting within the scope of their employment when this occurred. While one of our employees was unfortunately the victim of a theft, the events that followed were not actions undertaken on behalf of Southwest Fence & Deck. Your review also states that our employees pinned the suspect against your daughter’s vehicle. That did not occur. Police attended the scene, gathered statements from those involved, and investigated the incident at the time. At no point during that process was there any allegation that our employees had pinned the suspect against the vehicle or used it to restrain him. After reviewing the circumstances, we concluded that Southwest Fence & Deck was not responsible for the incident and therefore could not assume financial responsibility for the insurance deductible. While we understand you were hoping for a different outcome, our decision was based on the facts of the incident. We wish you and your daughter all the best moving forward

Southwest recently completed a redesign and renovation to our deck. Jeff was very helpful with design suggestions and the team that did the construction did a super job. The finished product is great and is being well used with the nice weather finally here.
